Phonica Advanced
The program is similar in structure to Phonica Elementary and consists of 40 lessons with a series of interactive modules.
Within each lesson there are up to 8 modules or key learning activities, providing over 300 learning modules within the Phonica Advanced program.
Phonica Advanced is aimed at the older learner and adult's who have already started reading at a very basic level - but who now require skills and knowledge to develop their reading further and be able to access a wider variety of texts.
As well as helping the student acquire reading skills, the program also teaches the basic skills needed for spelling and begins to teach the basics of writing.
The program is based on the principle that learning must be structured, sequential and cumulative. It is based on a multisensory approach - seeing, hearing, saying, doing and understanding.
There are 3 strands running through each lesson:
- Phonemic/phonic strategies - developing skills to deal with the smallest sound unit up to syllables. 85% of the English language is phonetically based.
- Visual/whole word strategies - learning most common words and irregular words.
- Language/comprehension strategies - reading in context, developing an understanding of the structure of the language.
The ability to create your own lessons.
In addition to the 40 Phonica lessons, the learner can place their own material of interest and as such Phonica provides an open ended solution for presenting new lessons of interest.
